My goal for the next five years is to trek the eight National Scenic Trails in the United States to raise money for Gilda’s Club North Texas, a nonprofit organization that offers social and emotional support to persons living with cancer. Gilda’s Club North Texas is the first Texas affiliate and the 14th nationwide of Gilda’s Club Worldwide, the international nonprofit organization inspired by the late comedienne Gilda Radner.

My first trek was the Appalachian Trail, a 2179-mile trek, from Georgia to Maine. I started in Georgia in early March 2008 and finished in November 2008. It was a difficult journey - with diabetes and trekking after 12 surgeries, including five knee, both shoulders, and double-neck fusion.

Why support Gilda’s Club?
I am doing this to honor my friend, Ruth K., who at age 37 is battling recurrent brain tumors, total blindness and diabetes. Her story inspired me to do my part to make a difference, and your support of Gilda’s Club is appreciated. Gilda’s Club provides a meeting place for families and friends and those affected by cancer, and offers networking groups, seminars, workshops, programs and more. One-hundred percent of your contribution will be made directly to Gilda’s Club North Texas.

Many thanks for your help, and wish me luck! Check this site often as I will post my plans for my next trek.
